(via This Amazing Device Just Made Wheelchairs Obsolete for Paraplegics)
Click ^ link for complete Gizmodo article. Interesting product, but I can’t see it as much more than novelty use. Yes, you’re standing, and it’s small wheelbase is good for access, but two major things that’ll bug me to no end- one, all that hardware in front of you? They even show him having to pull up askew to a circular table. Nope. And two? In the real world there’s this thing called UNEVEN TERRAIN. In completely flat environments, sure I’d tool around in this thing. But I wanna see this thing on video making it up a minor grade. No WAY I’d take this out on an uneven sidewalk. You’re strapped the hell in; I can only wonder what the recovery from a spill would be.
Well um. Kudos to try and innovate though.
I think this would only be practical for home use. It would be great health wise to stand a lot at home while still getting around, but for use out in the real world it would suck. I think it would be as confining as a regular power chair. I’m sticking with my manual chair its a much more versatile device. Simple is usually the best choice I think. Too many gadgets clutter up the day.
